The challenges of breast-feeding can surprise even moms who’ve been to this party before. But with the right approach, you’ll find that coping with most feeding concerns is much easier than sterilizing bottles!

These six tips will help you overcome common obstacles faced by nursing moms.

1. Get attached to latching

Women frequently experience nipple tenderness in the early weeks of breast-feeding. If nursing goes beyond just discomfort, though, there could be a problem, such as thrush, poor latch or a physiological issue. Working with a lactation consultant or other breast-feeding support service will help ensure that baby gets enough milk and mom doesn’t suffer nipple trauma.

“If there is any discomfort beyond 30–60 seconds, it is not right,” says Jennifer Enich, a lactation consultant at Seattle Children’s Hospital. “If the nipple hurts or looks damaged or misshapen after nursing, likely something is not right. There is usually a solution to pain that is way better than forgoing all the beauty that can come with nursing our babies.”

Bottom line: If it hurts, get some help!

2. Nip biting in the bud

Many mothers assume that once a baby has teeth, the nursing relationship is over. In reality, a baby cannot bite while breast-feeding because her tongue gets in the way of her teeth. Sometimes babies bite before or after nursing, but usually these episodes are fleeting.

Betty Fitzsimmons, a leader at La Leche League of Tacoma, who breast-fed her 11 children, offers this great tip: “Keep your little finger ready to go into the corner of the baby’s mouth to stop the bite when you feel it coming on. Biting does not have to be the end of a good nursing relationship.”

3. Respect the laws of supply and demand

It’s common to worry that your baby isn’t getting enough milk. Fret not: “Primary insufficiency is exceptionally rare,” says Barbara Orcutt, R.N., M.N., a lactation consultant at Beyond Birth Seattle. “Delayed lactation is more common.” This delay may be caused by separation of baby and mother, poor assistance for first feeds, interruption of the mother while she is trying to feed, introduction of formula or pumping exclusively instead of nursing at the breast.

Because breast-feeding is a supply-and-demand system, the more you nurse, the more milk you make. “Newborns’ bellies are so tiny and breast milk is so easily digested, they need to feed at least 8 to 16 times every 24 hours,” says lactation consultant Emily Healy of Seattle Breastfeeding Medicine. “The first step to getting milk supply back on track is skin-to-skin contact between mom and baby.” This contact stimulates the hormones that help produce milk.

In rare cases when the milk supply is truly insufficient, the cause may be related to physical concerns, such as poor latch or hormone imbalances. In more extreme cases, prescription medications can help induce lactation.

Sometimes the opposite is true and milk comes in abundantly, leading to uncomfortable engorgement. Pumping can help, but again: Remember the rules of supply and demand. If you pump too often, you will make more than your baby needs, which can exacerbate engorgement.

So go gentle on the pump and soothe the pressure by alternating cold packs and warm showers. You can also try whole chilled cabbage leaves in your bra. Yes, you’ll smell a little like salad, but it really works.

4. Keep the milk flowing

To avoid plugged milk ducts, feed your baby often enough to empty the breasts regularly. If a plugged duct does happen, turn to massage, warm packs and changing your nursing position to remove milk from all areas of the breast.

Plugged ducts may also lead to mastitis, an infection in the breast. Mastitis is more common in mothers who are stressed. Breast-feeding is a lot of work for the body, and moms deserve good nutrition and some extra rest (ah, that elusive prize) when they’re doing it.

“A day in bed with baby is a perfect prescription for mastitis,” says Raissa Larson, also a leader at La Leche League of Tacoma. A doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatories or antibiotics as well.

5. Get by with a little help from your friends — and a few professionals

Research tells us that social support encourages breast-feeding success. There are cases in which breast-feeding simply doesn’t work out, but that’s very rare.

North Seattle mom Melanie Burch remembers struggling through thrush and mastitis with all three of her children. “What kept me going was the resolve that I was just going to do it,” she says, and she also had incredible support from her family and community. Breast-feeding trouble may be as much an emotional issue as a physiological one, and nursing mothers need ample encouragement to move past it.

“It’s important to remember that it’s a process,” says Enich, who nursed her own three children and has supported countless families, and sometimes it takes time for everything to fall into place. “Each time a woman breast-feeds, both the mother and the baby have to learn how to breast-feed together,” Enich says. “It’s a unique situation each time.”

6. Don’t sweat the mixed messages

Perhaps most surprising to new mothers is the onslaught of breast-feeding advice; figuring out what to heed and what to ignore is part science, part art. Being on the receiving end of wildly different and even conflicting guidance is a common experience for nursing moms. All you need to do is keep trying new approaches until you find one that works, and don’t forget to tap into your maternal instincts — you know yourself and your baby better than anyone else does.

Tera Schreiber experienced a handful of common obstacles while nursing her children, and she is grateful for the amazing community of lactation support in the Puget Sound area.

Stand outside the glass and aim your camera inside the store then get the Vega or Zangief stand-up in the picture view and take a picture of the stand-up along with several Capcom items inside.

B-Rank Destruction

Prestige Points: 100
Scrap: 1000

S-Rank Destruction

Requirement: Get a S-rank Destruction photo.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

Destruction photos are photos of explosions. You'll have to have some type of explosive (grenade, sticky bomb, etc) and take a picture as the explosion goes off in order to get credit for a destruction photo. A good way to get an S-rank Destruction photo is to have some sticky bombs (combo weapon) in your inventory and create a mess of dead bodies with a blade combo weapon (such as the roto killer). Once you have a good pile of bloodshed, lure a single zombie into the pile of bloodshed then toss a sticky bomb at him then take a picture of the explosion along with the dead bodies around him and you'll get an S-rank Destruction photo easily. Instead of luring a zombie to the bloodshed, you could just leave a few of the zombies in the group alive. For some reason, this only seemed to work with a sticky bomb. Make sure that you snap a shot of the photo THE MOMENT the explosion goes off - snap a few shots before and keep snapping if needed.

B-Rank Drama

Feeding Frenzy Dead Rising 4

Requirement: Get a B-rank Drama photo.

S-Rank Drama

Requirement: Get a S-rank Drama photo.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

Taking pictures of survivors that are not being attacked by zombies count as Drama - you could take a picture of a survivor with several zombies behind the survivor or take a picture of a survivor with a bunch of dead zombies in the background. One really good way to get an S-rank Drama photo is to find a survivor that is behind attacked by zombies and then kill all the zombies around that survivor and quickly take a picture of the survivor as the mission is completed - the survivor will have tons of dead zombies around the survivor and you'll get a high rank Drama photo for taking a picture of the survivor.

B-Rank Horror

Taking a picture of a zombie with a mask over its head will give you an outtake picture. Find a toy shop with several masks inside and place the masks on zombies' heads then snap a shot of the zombies along with other zombies in the group and you'll get this easily. One sure way to get this is to go to the Christmas Tree Lot in the far northwest portion of West Ridge (near the dam building) and destroy the toy snowmen there to get a helmet to put on zombies. Put the snowmen masks on zombies then take a picture of the big crowd of zombies in the area with other zombies in the background to get this.

S-Rank Conspiracy

Requirement: Get a S-rank Conspiracy photo.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

Conspiracy photos are photos of Obscuris soldiers. Find a group of Obscuris soldiers and then lead zombie toward them and then take a picture of the soldiers as they fight the zombies and you'll most likely get an S-rank with enough zombies in the picture.

War Zone

Requirement: Get a B-rank photo of Conspiracy and Destruction.
Prestige Points: 100
Scrap: 1000

Conspiracy = soldiers, Destruction = weapon explosion. Bring a sticky bomb with Frank for this trial. Find a group of soldiers and lead zombies toward them to get them to fight. Toss the sticky bomb at a soldier and snap a shot as soon as the explosive goes off to get this. Snap shots ahead of time so that you take a picture the moment the explosion goes off.

The Silly Dead

Requirement: Get a B-rank photo of both Horror and Outtake categories.
Prestige Points: 100
Scrap: 1000

Outtake = zombie with mask, Horror = zombies. Infighting

Requirement: Get an A-rank photo of soldiers and zombies fighting.
Prestige Points: 100
Scrap: 1000

Find a group of soldiers and then lure some zombies toward them then allow the soldiers to attack the zombies and you'll be able to get this shot easily. Lure more zombies toward them to get a higher rank photo.

Man's Inhumanity to Man

Requirement: Get an A-rank photo of soldiers and survivors fighting.
Prestige Points: 100
Scrap: 1000

You'll need to find a group of hostile survivors and lead them toward some soldiers or vice versa in order to get this picture. You should be able to eventually find both of them near each other in the Willamette Memorial Megaplex, so try there first of all. The photo will show as 'Anarchy'.

Feeding Frenzy

Requirement: Get a photo of 3 fresh zombies feasting.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

When Frank goes down to the hallway leading to the safehouse in Caribbean Cove during Case 1, you'll meet three zombies feasting on human bodies while moving down the stairs. Zoom in on them and snap a shot of them before reaching the bottom of the stairs. Even though they are ordinary zombies, you'll get credit for this trial after snapping the shot.

No Hope Left

Requirement: Get a photo of a human transforming into a zombie before you eyes.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

During Case 3, go to the Rumor mission in the north portion of Old Town and kill off the first two hostile survivors in hazmat outfits. You’ll find some fresh zombies and two survivors behind the fence ahead. Allow the fresh zombies to attack the survivors then quickly knock down the fence with a melee weapon then take a picture of the two survivors in the back of the area as they start to rise and become zombies.

Lemmings

Requirement: Catch at least 3 zombies falling in one photo.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

Snap a photo of 3 zombies that stumble and fall while chasing Frank or snap a shot of three zombies that fall from some type of ledge. A good way to get this is to find a small group of zombies and back up as they approach then try to take a picture of them as they fall while running toward Frank. This photo is kind of random and will take a bit of luck to get.

Another way is to snap a shot of zombies that fall from a ledge. You'll need to find some sort of ledge or railing where zombies are grouped and falling. The video below shows a ledge in the park on the north side of Old Town and is a great spot to get this photo. Just like the other method, it will take some patience.

If you can find some type of lure (Singing Santa, Floating Lantern, Tripod Zapper) and place it below the railing, it will probably make the shot a bit easier.

Pounced I

Requirement: Snap a photo of a fresh zombie mid-pounce.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

This one takes some patience. The best times to get this are during Case 1 - when you first meet the fresh zombies outside the safe house, while fighting the fresh zombies in the safe house or when fighting the group of fresh zombies in the garage (behind the damaged shutter). You want to allow a fresh zombie to see Frank and try to get it to pounce on him then take a snapshot right then. You'll most likely get hit, but you'll get that photo!

Pounced II

Requirement: Catch a photo of an evolved zombie mid-jump.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

This one takes some patience. The best times to get this are during Case 1 just like the last pounced trial. You want to catch a zombie that is simply jumping to get this one, so you don't have to let one target Frank.

Fresh Pack

Requirement: Get a photo of a pack of 5 fresh zombies.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

During Case 1, wait until Frank needs to leave the safe zone then go into the garage below the Megaplex. When you go toward the damaged shelters with fresh zombies that will attack, quickly zoom in on them and photograph them all.

Fresh Horde

Requirement: Get a photo of a pack of 10 fresh zombies.
Prestige Points: 200
Scrap: 2000

Evo Pack

Requirement: Get a photo of a pack of 5 evolved zombies.
