Feeding Frenzy Food Truck Menu

As we head into finals week here in Chapel Hill, there’s no better stress relief than satisfying that sweet tooth craving – for me at least. I think last night’s trip to the grocery store for “finals fuel” — which included nothing more than a 2-liter bottle of Coke, a bag of Sour Patch Kids, Hershey’s Nuggets, and a box of Ghirardelli’s double chocolate brownie mix — is pretty clear evidence of that. Yet even with my cabinet now fully stocked with a number of diabetes-inducing products, I woke up this morning feeling the need for an entirely different way to satiate my sweet tooth. Enter the crepe truck.

In 2019, the South Carolina Aquarium will be hosting food trucks in Liberty Square. Find out about days, times and trucks by checking this page in January. Food truck menu ideas

Ever since I wrote a feature story on the growing food truck culture in the Triangle for my feature writing class last semester, I’ve become an avid follower of the trucks that frequent our area. The whole idea that gourmet food can come from the back of a truck has been a fascinating and delicious new adventure for my taste buds. One of my favorite trucks in Carrboro is called Parlez Vous Crepe, and I kid you not, the crepes taste like they’re fresh off the streets of Paris (after going there in the summer of 2010, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that Parlez Vous Crepe has Paris written all over it).

So needless to say, I was thrilled when I discovered Parlez Vous Crepe earlier this year, and it has since become a favorite for both me and my sister (whenever she comes to visit me at school, it’s our first stop). Fast forward to this morning when I was in major need of some pick-me-up, feel good food to combat the finals blues. Even though it was raining and the line for the truck was several people long, I waited to order my favorite item on the menu — a Nutella crepe with fresh strawberries and bananas. The crepe is so thin and fluffy, and the Nutella melts over the fruit in the most heavenly concoction you’ll ever eat.

Items

Even though Parlez Vous Crepe offers both sweet and savory crepes (If you’re going for savory, I recommend La Bonne Maman, which combines warm brie, apple butter, organic baby salad greens, and thinly sliced Granny Smith apples), you just can’t go wrong when Nutella is involved.

Strawberries, bananas and Nutella – so simple, yet SO delicious

And the best part is, I’m pretty sure crepes qualify as a breakfast food. What better way to wake up in the morning? (Hint: there is none.) The only downside to my crepe fixation is that Parlez Vous Crepe only comes to Carrboro on the weekends, at the Glasshalffull lot on Saturday mornings and the Johnny’s of Carrboro lot on Sunday mornings. Then again, it’s probably for the best that I can’t eat a crepe every single day, because that would probably happen.

So, in conclusion, be on the look out for that cheerful pink truck, because whatever you order from Parlez Vous Crepe will be nothing short of awesome (taste buds rejoice!) If you’re like me and have pretty much become the equivalent of a food truck stalker, you can find the exact location of the Parlez Vous Crepe truck by following them on Twitter @parlezvouscrepe (I knew I liked Twitter for a reason). In the meantime, I’m going to try to branch out and venture somewhere new next time, but I can’t promise anything.
